Koji Hiramatsu explains “pot matching” for selecting a pot suitable for a shimpaku in a twin-trunk form. Because the original pot was too large for the tree, he compared four new pots (a round pot, a rectangular shallow pot, and a bag-shaped oval pot). He notes that for a twin-trunk form with an elevated trunk base, a thin-walled pot that does not appear visually heavy is appropriate, and he visually demonstrates the process of selecting the bag-shaped oval pot that can express a sense of gentleness.
