The technique of “head formation,” the most important element in bonsai styling, will be explained in detail using an 80-100 year old Japanese Red Pine. Based on creating the primary to third branches as the foundation, the process of finishing the head section into a dome shape, like mochi, will be carefully introduced in detail, including wire selection, application, and branch arrangement. In particular, practical explanations of professional technical points, such as how to determine the front branch line, how to fill space, and the effective use of back branches, will be provided.
