Watering Immediately After Repotting

There is one last task for a tree immediately after Repotting. Keeping the water pressure as gentle as possible, pour water slowly from every angle — front, back, left, and right. Until clear water runs from the drainage holes — it is not the clock that tells you when to finish, but the tree itself.

Repotting Is Not Finished Until the Water Runs Clear

When the repotting work is done, it is not quite over. The final step begins after the pot is set and the Potting Soil settled — Watering is both the closing act of Repotting and a continuation of the conversation with your tree.

On Easing the Water Pressure

Before picking up the hose, there is one thing to keep in mind. This tree has just had its roots worked and its soil replaced. It is in a far more delicate state than usual.

So keep the water pressure 'as gentle as possible.' This is not about cutting corners. It is about reading where the tree is right now and choosing the care that moment calls for. This is a situation where gentleness matters more than force.

The Water Draining from the Bottom Holds the Answer

Pour water slowly from every direction — front, back, left, right. At first, the water flowing out of the drainage holes is cloudy. The fine particles of dust left in the Potting Soil ride the current out with it.

The moment to stop Watering is decided not by the clock, but by watching the drainage holes. Only when clear water begins to flow do you set down the hose.

'Clear or cloudy' — the answer always comes from the tree's side. Rather than deciding when to stop yourself, there is a quiet stance here of letting the tree tell you.

Completion as a Beginning

Watering after Repotting can seem like an unremarkable task. Yet within it, something essential about how to tend a tree rests quietly.

Read the condition. Respond to it. Move forward without rushing, pausing to confirm. The moment clear water flows from the bottom — that may be the true meaning of 'completion.'

And from that moment, a quiet time begins, turning toward the next season.
